The National School Breakfast Programme
The National School Breakfast Programme (NSBP) is has been established to support 1,775 schools to improve existing, breakfast provision. The aim is to ensure that more disadvantaged pupils, across both primary and secondary schools, have access to a free and nutritious breakfast. Studies clearly show that pupils in primary school who eat a nutritious meal before school have improved progress in reading, writing, and maths. Breakfast provision before school is also linked to an improvement in pupil behaviour.
The delivery of this breakfast provision to schools will be evaluated and reported .The first phase of this work evaliuation was completed and can be found in the published Explore Report.
While we are currently making provision for a breakfast club at school, to support identified pupils, unfortunately at the present time numbers are limited for this provision, and is available by invitation only.
Hounslow Heath Junior School is one of the schools taking part in this NSBP programme. If your child is a pupil at Hounslow Heath Junior School, is eligible for free school meals, have ever been in receipt of free school meals or you would like to find out more about eligibility and how this this programme could benefit your child, please contact the school using the contact details; emailing the school at office@hhjs.hounslow.sch.uk.

The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011, and paid by means of a specific grant for pupils registered as eligible for Free School Meals in reception to Year 11 or those who are looked after by the Local Authority. A premium has also been introduced for children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces. The Pupil Premium will be used by this school to address any underlying inequalities for children who are eligible, by ensuring that funding reaches the pupils who need it most.
Further information is available below as well as the most recent reports on funding and impact of the Pupil Premium funding at Hounslow Heath Junior School.
Sports Premium
Sports and PE are priorities at Hounslow Heath Junior School, through the National Curriculum the School Curriculum and Extended School Curriculum, coordinated by Mr Harding, a leader of learning or senior member of staff. Sports and PE play key role in our school curriculum, supported fully by staff and pupils throughout the school. It is no coincidence that the school has won the Pauling Cup twice in three years; the borough wide football tournament for primary schools across the London Borough of Hounslow.
The Sport Premium is government spending for improving physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This extra funding is allocated directly to primary schools. The overview for Sport Premium at Hounslow Heath Junior School is available below.
The funding is being used for a range of provisions:
Achievement of Year 5 and Year 6 Pupils in Swimming
Before the Covid-19 pandemic all pupils in Year 5 learned to swim at Hounslow Heath Junior School, with Year 5 classes attending weekly swimming lessons at Feltham Swimming Baths. They learn to use freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. The following table shows the achievement of Year 6 pupils by end of the previous academic year; with regard the ability to swim 25 metres non-stop unaided and to use a range of strokes confidently. The table also shows the performance of pupils in receipt Pupil and Sports Premium funding. Swimming lessons will resume once Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted completely.
